Frequently Asked Questions

Is NUAMES private?
No, NUAMES is a public charter school. Charter schools have a charter, or a contract, between the school, school districts, and the Utah State Board of Education. The charter sets forth the conditions under which the school will operate. Additional information can be obtained through the Charter Schools Homepage on the Utah State Office of Education website at:
     Utah Charter Schools - www.usoe.k12.ut.us/charterschools

How much does it cost?
NUAMES has the same costs as other public high schools. There is no special tuition. We may require fees for some coursework or textbook rental fees. Generally, such fees are similar to other high schools in the Ogden, Weber, and Davis school districts. Any school fees will be reduced or waived for qualified parents, guardians, and students in accordance with state law.

How is NUAMES funded?
As a public school, NUAMES is funded primarily by state funding. In addition, we are actively pursuing contributions from a variety of sources including businesses and foundations.

Who can attend NUAMES?
Any student who has completed Algebra I successfully may apply to NUAMES.

How do I enroll?
You can enroll online or my contacting the school at: (801) 402-5920

How will you select students?
Any student who resides in the Weber, Ogden, Davis, or Morgan school district areas is welcome to apply to NUAMES. We want students who are eager, interested, and motivated to apply themselves in this endeavor.

There is no entrance examination. After acceptance, students' interests and abilities will be assessed in conjunction with staff and parents to determine course readiness and placement. Summer and after school assistance will be provided for students who require or request any additional support as they pursue the course requirements.

Why is a school like NUAMES needed?
There is a major shortage of qualified young people going into math, engineering, and science and related technical fields. NUAMES will help prepare students to pursue careers in these fields.

What if I'm already enrolled elsewhere?
Even if you already are enrolled in another high school, in a private school, or are home schooled, you may apply to NUAMES.

Can my credit be transferred from/to another high school?
Yes, all credits from accredited high schools are transferable.

How will I get there?
No student will be left behind when it comes to transportation. NUAMES will share the responsibility for the transportation of students to and from school through contract services with Ogden, Weber, and Davis School District Transportation Offices. We do not have the funding to pay for door-to-door transportation.

What extracurricular activites are available?
Clubs and activities will be readily available, and anyone in the NUAMES school community can start a club addressing their particular interests, goals, and the schools curriculum.
What type of sports will be available at NUAMES?
Students have the opportunity to participate in intramural sports. NUAMES will not have separate teams that will qualify for participation in the Utah High School Activities Association. Students may also try out for sports teams at their neighborhood high schools.

Is school lunch offered?
Yes. NUAMES provides a bus to transport students to and from Northridge High School for lunch. Lunch costs $2.00 per day. You may pay per day or prepay any amount ahead of time. Click here to learn more:

Who are the educators?
Students will learn from Utah State Board of Education licensed high school teachers. We have a full teaching staff that is highly qualified in their fields: with the majority having advanced degrees and having experience working in a private industry. In addition, faculty from Weber State University will instruct 11th and 12th graders as they participate in university courses. Visiting the professionals will also offer specialized seminars and extended exploratory sessions.

Can parents be involved?
We see parents active in the success of their children. There will be a variety of opportunities for parents, including an active parent-teacher-student organization, a parent resource center, and a volunteer organization.
